CIPFA Police Advisory Network (PAN)

Welcome to the Police Advisory Network web pages

The CIPFA Police Advisory Network (PAN) aims to provide police professionals with practical, relevant and up-to-date advice during a period of unprecedented public service reform. The network focuses on legislative developments, Government policy and strategic policing issues that have implications for police forces and authorities.

The network offers support to members in considering the issues involved and what needs to be done to facilitate the implementation of new initiatives and legislative requirements. The network also considers issues of good practice. It achieves this through effective briefing of its members at quarterly regional workshops, via bulletins on current issues and ad hoc analyses of Home Office legislation, policy documents and HMIC inspection reports.

This workshops theme was the use and redirection of resources, specifically how this can help sustain and develop police front-line services in order to deliver our priorities and the demands placed on forces. How can forces’ support functions best serve front-line services, particularly the requirement to demonstrate Best Value through continuous improvement? Our speakers at this session have had substantial public sector experience in change and the response to developing organisations to be more accountable with their resources. This experience encompasses functions undergoing major development and restructuring, while responding to high levels of legislative change.
