Introduction to the Police Advisory Network
The CIPFA Police Advisory Network (PAN) aims to provide police professionals with practical, relevant and up-to-date advice during a period of unprecedented public service reform. The network focuses on legislative developments, Government policy and strategic policing issues that have implications for police forces and authorities.
The network offers support to members in considering the issues involved and what needs to be done to facilitate the implementation of new initiatives and legislative requirements. The network also considers issues of good practice. It achieves this through effective briefings of its members at quarterly regional workshops, via bulletins on current issues and ad hoc analyses of published documents including Home Office legislation, policy documents, HMIC inspection reports and publications by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. The network also includes regular e-mail alerts on recent publications and details of our events.
Quarterly regional workshops are held to update members on the latest developments and to discuss implications. Home Office and HMIC representatives often attend the workshops to provide updates and to speak on specific issues relating to police reform and performance management. The workshops are also an opportunity to feedback to the Home Office, and others, on the practical implications of initiatives for police forces and authorities.
