Introduction to the Police Advisory Network in Scotland

The CIPFA Police Advisory Network provides police professionals with practical, relevant and up-to-date advice during a period of unprecedented public service reform and at a time of increasing pressure on scarce resources. The network focuses on legislative developments, Government policy and strategic policing issues that have implications for police forces and joint police boards.

The network offers support to members in considering the issues involved and what needs to be done to facilitate the implementation of new initiatives and legislative requirements. The network also considers issues of good practice. It achieves this through effective briefings of its members at workshops and through our written briefings.

New for 2009!

Membership of the PAN has always offered good value for money for practitioners, which is something that we are keen to build on further at this unprecedented time of resource constraint.

So, following discussions with members of the network we are changing the format of events. There will now be only two police specific events per annum in Scotland, but members will also be able to use their pre-paid places at CIPFA events aimed at all public sector organisations in Scotland and at CIPFA Police Advisory Network events in England.

The two specific events for Scottish police forces and joint police boards are:
  • Delivering Efficient and Effective Scrutiny
    26 August 2009
  • Getting the Most out of our Resources
    February 2010

For more details of all of the events at which members of the Police Advisory Network can use their pre-paid places, please refer to the attached Service Programme.

All subscribers have online access to a library of documentation. In 2009/10, we will continue to provide briefings with analysis of key documents including reports with implications for the Police Service. We will disseminate good practice and ideas obtained from our events and send e-mail alerts on new developments. Later in the year, we will produce good practice guides.

We will also be introducing a newsletter which will be sent out to members by e-mail. If you have any contributions you would like to make to the newsletter, or any ideas for topics you would like us to include, please e-mail Alison.Dewhirst@cipfa.org.uk

Subscriptions to the Police Advisory Network in Scotland run from 1st April – 31st March. For more information on subscribing, please contact:
