This discussion paper sets out some background to the ideas that will be covered at the CIPFA Performance Improvement Network Lean North 08 and Lean South 08 events. These workshops will look at both lean systems and activity-based costing, focusing particularly on how organisations can use lean and ABC ideas to make sure that they target their resources appropriately, and to ensure that the changes they make are genuine improvements.
