The CIPFA Police Panel
CIPFA's Police Panel brings together a wide range of organisations concerned in the efficient operation and accountability of the police service today, with a particular focus on supporting best practice, standards and guidelines for forces and authorities/boards on financial aspects of the police service. The Panel is always keen to hear about matters of interest or concern for finance colleagues in the service, whether at forces or at authorities/boards, and can be contacted via Julian Smith of the CIPFA Secretariat at email address julian.smith@cipfa.org.uk or telephone 0207 543 5795. The Panel also sponsors two conferences, details of which can be found under the Police Finance Advisory Network link below.
CIPFA Police Finance Advisory Network (Police FAN)
The Police FAN aims to provide police finance professionals with practical, relevant and up-to-date advice during a period of unprecedented public service reform. The network focuses on legislative developments, Government policy and strategic policing issues that have implications for police finance professionals in forces and authorities. It offers support to members in considering the issues involved and what needs to be done to facilitate the implementation of new initiatives and legislative requirements. The network also considers issues in financial management in order to identify and share good practice. For details of all police finance events and conferences, please access the 2010/11 service plan.
CIPFA Treasury Management Forum (TMF)
The Treasury Management Forum is creating both a national forum where the major treasury management issues of the day can be discussed and debated in an impartial and informed environment. It is also a local network to connect participants with good practice through the dissemination of timely and authoritative information and knowledge amongst practitioners in the treasury management field.
CIPFA Better Governance Forum (BGF)
The Better Governance Forum provides good practice guidance and workshops on a range of governance topics, including internal audit, counter fraud, information governance, risk management and ethical standards. It will be of interest to practitioners in these areas and also to those charged with governance such as Audit Committee members.
CIPFA Training and Development
CIPFA's Training and Development division offers a comprehensive portfolio of standard courses which have been designed to address the needs of the public sector and which are delivered on an open course or in-house basis. Please note that Police Advisory Network members can use their pre-paid places at all open courses on leadership, performance improvement and finance for non-finance professionals. Our list of open courses can be accessed via our training directory.
CIPFA Benchmarking
CIPFA's benchmarking services can help organisations answer fundamental questions such as how are we performing as an organisation? Have we performed better than last year? How does our performance compare with our peer organisations? Can we learn anything from other organisations? Our links with public services are long-standing and our benchmarking covers a comprehensive range of the main financial services. Our large and proactive membership benefits from the consistency developed through common and robust definitions and careful validation of data supplied by members. They also benefit through the participation in member steering groups and information and review meetings. Details of our Police Financial Services benchmarking club can be accessed here.
TISonline Police and Fire
TISonline Police and Fire is an information stream providing an overview of the organisation and financial management of the police service and fire rescue services. It sets out the organisational structure, legislative background and the main management and financial issues, including funding, revenue and capital finance, accounting, audit and inspection. TISonline is CIPFA's online information resource supporting financial managers in the public services. It provides over 30 information streams of guidance on the financial and service functions of local authorities and other bodies, supported by news updates, discussion forums and e-alert services.
