Localism

The Localism Bill has been heralded as a landmark bill that is pivotal to the Coalition Government's 'Big Society' agenda. It has the hallmark to transform the relationship between central government, local government, communities and individuals and put an end to decades of 'big government' control of our daily lives.

The Bill contains a radical package of reforms, including:

1.  Lifting the burden of bureaucracy;

2.  Empowering communities to do things their way

3.  Increasing community control of public finances

4.  Diversifying the supply of public services

5.  Opening up Government to public scrutiny

6.  Strengthening accountability to local people

The Bill also contains the much-promised general power of competence which will mean that innovative initiatives can finally be delivered.
